Junk Foods Lowers Children’s IQ

Mothers who often lets their children eat unhealthy junk foods like chips, crisps, biscuits, hamburgers and pizza should be more careful. From a recent study, it is found that not only are these fast food low in nutrition but it also can lower IQ of children. The worse thing which could happen is that children who frequently consume junk food may also experience permanent brain damage.
Research by the University of Bristol, England, shows that children who eat more chips, biscuits and pizza before the age of three years old have lower IQs five years later.
Those who eat junk foods, has IQs which could be five points lower compared with children given a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables ,and home-cooked food.
The study involved about 14,000 children born in the early 1990s. This is the first study that shows a direct relationship between eating patterns of young children and their brain power in the future.
Besides nutritional factors, researchers also weighed social class factors, and nursing mothers education and age. The researchers looked at the influence of home environment, such as access to toys and books.
They say that good nutrition is very important in the first three years of life when the brain grows at its fastest pace. Young children who eat foods that are packed with fat, sugar and processed foods consume too little vitamins and nutrients, which means that their brains never grows to the optimum level.
